Tarrant Area Food Bank North Texas Giving Day

I have had the honor of serving on the Tarrant Area Food Bank for the last two years. I am so pleased to be a small part of an organization that has met the challenges of the COVID pandemic and provided more nutritious meals than ever before in our history, opened the TAFB West distribution center, and begun to meet the needs of our western region, have secured more resources for TAFB than ever before, and have developed the most competent and exceptional staff in our history. But much work remains as we continue to meet food insecurity challenges for many of our neighbors in north Texas.

Our success over those four decades has involved surmounting many challenges. One such obstacle currently is our need to purchase food to maintain service levels of nearly one million meals a week. Inflation is biting families hard- at a time when there is little surplus in the supply chain. This excess has historically been where we obtained the majority of our food.

On September 22 we celebrate North Texas Giving Day. Our annual board challenge to participate has played a role in annually increasing revenue on this important fundraising day. Last year, we raised a record $380,000. This year, in celebration of our 40th anniversary and in the realization of our need to secure funds for food purchases, I ask you to join a special effort and reach unprecedented heights.
